Basics
What it means
A doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of cancer. They explain the treatment options, coordinate the treatment pathway and follow the course of the disease together with the other specialists involved.

- Cancer follow-up (surveillance)
- Regular follow-up of the patient after active treatment has ended. It includes clinical consultations, imaging investigations and tests, at intervals set by the doctor. The aim is the early detection of a recurrence.
- Adenocarcinoma
- A subtype of carcinoma that arises in glandular cells, that is, cells that produce or secrete certain substances. It can appear in organs such as the lung, colon, pancreas or prostate.
- Benign tumor
- A growth that does not invade the surrounding tissues and does not produce metastases. Although it may sometimes need treatment or monitoring, a benign tumor is not considered cancer.
