Diagnosis
What it means
A technique in which the doctor uses ultrasound, CT or MRI to guide the needle during a biopsy or a drainage procedure. It ensures maximum precision and reduces the risk of complications.

- Biopsy
- Taking a small sample of tissue or cells from the body to be examined under the microscope. It is the main method of confirming the diagnosis in oncology. The procedure is usually done under local anaesthetic and takes only a short time.
- AFP (alpha-fetoprotein)
- A tumor marker useful especially for liver cancer and certain testicular or ovarian tumors. It is measured in the blood for diagnosis, monitoring treatment and detecting a recurrence.
- ALK-positive
- A gene rearrangement found in a subset of lung cancers, more common in non-smoking or younger patients. ALK-positive tumors often respond very well to specific targeted therapies, different from standard chemotherapy.
