Basics
What it means
The most common cancer in men over 50 in Romania. It develops from the cells of the prostate gland and usually progresses slowly. When detected early through the PSA test and a digital rectal exam, the prognosis is very good.

- PSA (Prostate-specific antigen)
- A protein produced by the prostate gland, whose concentration in the blood can rise in the presence of prostate cancer. Used for screening, monitoring and detecting a recurrence.
- Adenocarcinoma
- A subtype of carcinoma that arises in glandular cells, that is, cells that produce or secrete certain substances. It can appear in organs such as the lung, colon, pancreas or prostate.
- Benign tumor
- A growth that does not invade the surrounding tissues and does not produce metastases. Although it may sometimes need treatment or monitoring, a benign tumor is not considered cancer.
