Diagnosis
What it means
A grading system used exclusively for prostate cancer, which assesses under the microscope how abnormal the tumor cells look. It is expressed as the sum of two values (for example 3+4=7) and helps estimate how aggressive the disease is.

- Prostate cancer
- The most common cancer in men over 50 in Romania. It develops from the cells of the prostate gland and usually progresses slowly. When detected early through the PSA test and a digital rectal exam, the prognosis is very good.
- AFP (alpha-fetoprotein)
- A tumor marker useful especially for liver cancer and certain testicular or ovarian tumors. It is measured in the blood for diagnosis, monitoring treatment and detecting a recurrence.
- ALK-positive
- A gene rearrangement found in a subset of lung cancers, more common in non-smoking or younger patients. ALK-positive tumors often respond very well to specific targeted therapies, different from standard chemotherapy.
