KRAS (gene)
Diagnosis
What it means
A gene that is frequently mutated in colorectal, lung and pancreatic cancer. KRAS status helps guide treatment choice — for example, some targeted therapies do not work if the tumor has a KRAS mutation.

The terms below often appear alongside this one. Each definition is right here, so you do not have to look elsewhere.
- Colorectal cancer (of the colon and rectum)
- The second most common cancer in Romania, in both men and women. It develops from the lining of the colon or rectum. When detected early through colonoscopy or a faecal occult blood test, it has a favourable prognosis.
- AFP (alpha-fetoprotein)
- A tumor marker useful especially for liver cancer and certain testicular or ovarian tumors. It is measured in the blood for diagnosis, monitoring treatment and detecting a recurrence.
- ALK-positive
- A gene rearrangement found in a subset of lung cancers, more common in non-smoking or younger patients. ALK-positive tumors often respond very well to specific targeted therapies, different from standard chemotherapy.
